Mmm… Ribs

Construction continued this weekend on plans page C75-R-1 with a couple more ribs and a small bracket. I have two more ribs to make for the rudder, then this page of parts will be complete.

Below you see a rib blank marked out, with the flange area designated using a flange marking tool I made.

The bandsaw makes short work of cutting out the rib blank. A vixen file cleans up the edges in less than five minutes.

Here’s a closeup of the flange marking tool.

Here’s how you use the flange marking tool. Simple and effective!

The rudder top rib was a right pain in the you-know-what, but it turned out OK.

Once I finish with the rudder ribs, I will move on to the vertical fin ribs. I won’t actually assemble the rudder or fin since I do not yet have a bending brake long enough to bend the rudder or fin spars. Yep, you guessed it… I’ll be making a bending brake too! Stay tuned for that. 🙂
